The Convention-Vaugirard area

The law June 16, 1859 decreed the annexation to the City of Paris of the area situated between the old wall of the Fermiers-Généraux and the enclosure of Thiers. The communes of Grenelle, Vaugirard and Javel also became part of Paris in 1860.
They came to form Paris' 15th Ward, the largest and most densely populated district of Paris.

Rue Vaugirard, the longest in Paris, takes you from the Porte de Versailles to the quartier Saint Michel in the heart of Paris.
The origin of its name can be traced back to ancient times, when it designated a Roman way. The rue de la Convention took its name from the Assembly that sat there between 1792 and 1795.

Two other famous sites worthy of mention are the PARC DES EXPOSITIONS (home to the Paris Faire, the Agriculture Show or the World Automobile Show), and the PARC GEORGES BRASSENS, built on the former site of the Vaugirard slaughterhouse.

It's a lively neighbourhood with the beautiful terraces of the brasseries at the crossroads of Vaugirard Convention, and its two tiny shaded squares that are home to vintage merry-go-rounds, outdoor cafés, the entrance to the Convention metro station and the superb Gaumont Convention Cinema. A farmers' market offers authentic products from every region of France twice a week.
